Multi-Level Decking Installation on Sloped Garden in Kent
Staggered Deck Design Creating Defined Outdoor Living Spaces
This project involved transforming a challenging sloped garden into a functional and visually striking outdoor living area. The existing lawn was difficult to maintain due to the gradient, with limited usable space for seating or entertaining.
Stagbrook was commissioned to design and construct a multi-level decking solution that would maximise the available space while creating clearly defined areas for relaxation, dining and planting.
The Brief
Address the steep garden slope
Replace the uneven lawn with a low-maintenance solution
Create level outdoor spaces for seating and entertaining
Introduce structured zones for planting and furniture
Deliver a durable and visually cohesive finish across the garden
The aim was to turn an impractical garden into a space that could be comfortably used throughout the year.
Our Approach
Rather than attempting to flatten the garden completely, we designed a staggered deck layout that followed the natural contours of the site. This allowed us to create a series of level platforms while maintaining the character of the landscape.
Project duration: Approximately 3 weeks
Ground preparation: Structural supports installed to accommodate the slope
Deck structure: Reinforced sub-frame engineered for stability across varying levels
Design: Multi-tiered layout creating natural transitions between zones
Layout planning: Dedicated areas designed for seating, dining and planting
Finishing: Clean edge detailing and precise board alignment throughout
This approach ensured the entire garden could be utilised while maintaining structural integrity and a refined finish.
Craftsmanship & Detail
Sloped gardens require careful structural planning to ensure long-term stability. Our installation focused on:
Strong structural supports across the gradient
Carefully measured levels to create comfortable, usable platforms
Seamless transitions between deck levels
Defined spaces for outdoor furniture and planting features
The result is a garden that feels structured, balanced and easy to navigate.
The Result
The transformation replaced a difficult-to-maintain sloping lawn with a series of beautifully finished deck levels that now function as outdoor rooms.
The staggered design naturally creates areas for:
Outdoor dining
Relaxed seating
Decorative planting
Easy circulation through the garden
By decking the entire garden, the homeowners now enjoy a low-maintenance outdoor space that is practical, organised and visually striking.
“Our garden used to be difficult to use because of the slope, but Stagbrook completely transformed it. The staggered decking design makes the whole space feel organised and usable, with dedicated areas for seating, plants and entertaining. The workmanship is excellent and the garden is now so much easier to maintain”
